It's All Me
Artists Statement:
My piece is of me jumping from rock to rock to rock outside. I tried to get lots of pictures of me in the air while keeping a couple where I was touching the ground to make the picture seem more realistic. This picture tells the story of when I used to jump across the rocks in elementary school and have fun with my friends. There were many challenges while taking pictures for this assignments. We had to take multiple pictures without moving the camera. Also, you had to remember what positions you had already taken pictures in order not overlap. I tried to effectively use all of the rocks and as they zig-zags back and forth towards the end.
Using only one subject in this picture changes the meaning than if we had a bunch of different people. It shows the progression of one person going along so that you can follow their "story". The theme behind my work is that you have to keep going. No matter what gaps you have to leap over you must keep going towards you goal. With lots of hard work and perseverance everyone can achieve whatever they set their mind to.

Picasso's Revenge
Artist's Statement:
For this project, I chose a clock on my desk as my subject matter. The focal point of the piece is the clock because that is what my theme centers around. It was challenging trying to piece all the photos together since they are all taken from different points of view. Using depth perception I was able to make the lamp look farther back on the table so that more attention was on the clock. I tried to fill up the canvas but I did leave black spaces because the blank wall space was not needed. The rule of thirds helps make my image more appealing to the eye.
The meaning of this project can be taken several different ways since it has been abstracted. Now you can look at all the different sides of the object as opposed to sticking to one object. The theme for this picture was about time and memories. It is about how over time, memories are collected and stored. That is represented in this piece by the dust that has collected over time on the clock.
This piece makes a reference to pop culture because it has Mickey Mouse in it. Almost every kid has gone to Disneyland/world or seen a Disney movie and have had great childhood memories associated with that. Over time they have collected all of these great memories and stored them in their mind. Each time they see something that is from Disney, those memories are pulled out once again and cherished. This is the same with the clock. Every once in a while, I pull this clock off my shelf and remember all the great memories I had at Disney World when I was a kid. My love of Disney influenced me to choose this Mickey Mouse clock as my project.

Surrealist Project
Artist Statement:
According to Dictionary.com, surrealism is a style of art developed in the 20th century, stressing the subconscious by the exploitation of chance effects, unexpected juxtapositions, etc. For this project, we took a peaceful picture of a European street and turned it into something completely different. We added in: a giant baby, butterfly, Dumbledore from Potter Puppet Pals, lambs, a door (with playground), a teddy bear and ourselves. The methods of surrealism demonstrated here are distortion, change in scale, dreamlike qualities, symbolism, gravity and juxtaposition. All of the liquified objects objects in this picture represent certain things slowly slipping away. The lambs jumping into the water symbolize getting a wake-up call. We used the large baby to show people that the past is always going to be haunting you in the background. In the sky, you can see a door opening to a playground. This object gives the viewer a glimpse back to what life used to be like; carefree and joyous. If you could not already tell, the theme for this picture is childhood. It shows the viewer how childhood is precious and will slowly but steadily slip away. Treasure every moment because you will not be able to enjoy it ever again.

Tiny Planet :)
Artist Statement:
My Tiny Planet is a landscape photo of downtown Vancouver. Although my planet is round, the lines that dominate this picture are straight. The buildings throughout the picture are all rigid and radiate from the center. The shapes that dominate this planet are inorganic. There are few objects within the picture that are organic, such as Science world. The colour blue dominates this picture. The sky, water, windows, and mountains are all different shades of blue. Other colours that have a big presence in the picture are green and white. The green grass immediately stands out in contrast to all of the blue. Most of the buildings in this picture and the railing in the foreground are both white.
The white railing in the foreground of my picture gives a pause between there and the middle ground. The mountains in the background are almost the same size as the Cirque du Soleil in the middle ground. By using depth perception, you can tell that the mountains are actually very far away in order to be the same size as a circus tent. The buildings at the top of the photo are very large yet are still considered to be part of the background in this picture. For the composition of this picture, the layout is vertical since there are many different buildings with a variety of heights throughout the photo. Everything seems to be coming straight out of the planet to the sky. The windows in all of the buildings make a very distinct checkered pattern. As well, the towers make a pattern of lines coming out from the center of the the picture as if it were rays from the sun. The colour scheme in this picture is cold. Whenever I think of the colour blue I associate it with ice, water, and a cold day. Since the majority of the picture is blue, it gives off a cool vibe.
Making this project took a lot of planning. First, I chose my location as downtown Vancouver. I setup my tripod on a little jut out by the water in the early morning. Then I took portrait pictures overlapping slightly all the way around me, creating a 360° view. The first time I did a panorama, I accidentally didn’t get the top of all the buildings in the picture. So after a couple tries, I was finally satisfied with the shots. On photoshop, I used photomerge and stitched all the photos together to create a panorama. From there, I fixed some slight issues in the photo and cropped it. Then I resized the picture into a square and rotated it 180°. By using Polar Coordinates, I was then able to transform it into a Tiny Planet. From there, I just fixed up small imperfections throughout the photo such as streaks in the sky and slight discolouration.
To me, this picture represents my childhood. I always remember going down to the waterfront as a kid and being in awe of everything. The buildings towered over top of me, the sky looked limitless and the seagulls flew overhead. That is why I decided to title this picture “Limitless”. Looking at this, I feel as if I am in a completely different world.
All of the buildings on the planet symbolize urbanization. There are constantly new buildings put in place downtown since many people living in rural areas come to the city in search of job opportunities.
The blue in this photo makes the viewer feel calm and relaxed opposed to if the picture was taken on a rainy day. As well, the green grass in the centre is a refreshing change of colour.
This image would feel cool since it was taken on a cold morning on the waterfront. Yet the sun’s rays warm you up slightly. The air smells crisp and fresh. Everything is peaceful and some people walk along the waterfront. You can hear the seagulls flying overhead and the constant flow of traffic. I think this piece of work is important because it shows the beauty in things around us.
For this project, I chose a scene that was common. I wanted to show people that the things you may pass by everyday are really beautiful and amazing. I did fulfill all the requirements for this project but I would have liked to improve it a little bit. I would have liked to spend more time fixing the grass discolouration. It is very noticeable and distracting, otherwise I am very proud of the work I have produced.
